This very special, unique event gathered musicians Nick Ghanbarian, Randy Randall, Brian Wecht, MNYS, Danielle Durack, and Daniel Sheron, plus comedian Brooke Van Poppelen, and filmmaker/friend Rich Wilkes to swap stories and talk shit in front of a live audience in the heart of Hollywood at The Hotel Cafe. It was an absolute blast!
Dom Flemons is a Grammy award-winning musician, but that is putting it mildly. He is a music historian with an encyclopedic knowledge and the record collection to back it up. Known affectionately as The American Songster, we consider ourselves honored to have him on Bothering the Band, and all we want is him to tell us stories in his calming cadence forever.
We put a hat on top of a hat with David Cross! You know him from Arrested Development, Mr. Show, and a long list of other cool shit, and we just had a perfect conversation with him, chatting about music and poetry, Florida and more. His hilarious and thoughtful new special "I'm From the Future" is available on his website. He ends this episode of Bothering the Band in a perfect, sentimental note.
The universe wanted this Bonus Episode with Chad Peck of Kestrels to happen. A fuzzy, reverb-drenched power-pop band from Halifax, Nova Scotia who excel at crafting huge-sounding songs with big hooks and ripping riffs, Kestrels came to us out of the ether of Twitter and was as patient as an angel. Now we are good pals with Chad, who teaches high school English by day and rocks out by night.
From organic farm to major music label, Illiterate Light mix soaring indie rock and swirling psychedelia with a splash of atmospheric folk. A fair episode for the welcomed warm days of approaching summer, we played some games, talked about dumpster diving, and just had a blast connecting with them, so listen up!
Fresh off his absolutely fantastic new album, Frank Turner sat down with us to discuss wild stuff, like baseball (you're gonna want to hear his baseball story!) poetry, switchblade combs, and much more. Simply put, we can't believe we got to bother Frank Turner...again. He is so damn nice and we are so damn lucky.
From rocking out at Warped Tour with his band Fluf, to designing for Obama and Facebook, Josh Higgins is a freaking renaissance man who has connections throughout graphic design, politics and musical history. And now we have him on the pod, talking rolled up bologna, skateboarding, road rage, and more.
On this badass BONUS EPISODE, we talk with Joseph Bern from the New Jersey storytelling punk band Old Currents! This episode was recorded just days before Slapgate, so us discussing Will Smith as a safe bet is hilarious. We also talk a lot about food, Gary (the motorcycle guy from the film A Place Beyond The Pines), and a ton about music. P.S. we hope Joseph's parents listen to this episode!
Nashville & Memphis, TN based S.A.M (Savage After Midnight) are grabbing the cock ring of music stardom, and their frontman, Shi Eubank, is a rocker without a filter. This guy will tell you anything you want to know and he’s not afraid to own his past, his present and take charge of his future. That said, it was fun asking him about Kool-Aid pickles and tampons.
This special episode of Bothering the Band, opens with Ronnie Winter of infamous post hardcore emo-punk band The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus singing like a choir of angels before venturing down memory lane to talk about music, MySpace, and more. The full-time dad and part-time rocker describes himself as the annoying sober vegan, but we describe as genre-less and genuine.
A faith-based band that created their own sub-genre of metal, called Beautycore, GFM, which stands for Gold, Frankincense, & Myrrh, consists of three sisters from Jacksonville, who are just having a blast and touring, and we were stoked to have them on Bothering the Band. This is another great episode for the metalhead in your life, even if it makes us feel old!
A Florida-centric rollercoaster through hell, our interview with AJ of We're Wolves is the number 1 episode to listen to while taking a number 2, because we don't hold back on haircuts, Halloween, promises, middle names, Kraken Fest, Ryan Gosling, and so much more that your ass will melt from spicy laughter. Listen loud and then tell your metalhead friends, because they will love it.
We sat down with Nigerian American Artist, Spoken Word Poet, Film-Maker, Educator, and fellow podcaster (The Poet Speaks Podcast) Amanda Eke to talk about the intersection of poetry and music. We also ask silly questions about Mexican food (or lack thereof) in Japan, and other fun stuff. This episode is a little different, so give it a listen and then check out her podcast.
From open mics and empty bathtubs, this Bonus Episode with Maria Maita-Keppeler and Matthew Zeltzer (and a pug named Frank) of the Portland-based band MAITA was a best-wish-filled creature party. Their sophomore album, "I Just Want To Be Wild For You" just came out Feb 18th on Kill Rock Stars. After listening to this, listen to it, and then tell a friend about Bothering the Band.
From the music to the interview itself, we are definitely under the spell of joy with Bonnie Bloomgarden, frontwoman of the the Los Angeles-based rock 'n' roll band, Death Valley Girls, who answers our silly, earthly questions – about everything from t-shirts to Iggy Pop – all from her cosmic throne in the recording studio. We absolutely love this episode so give it a good listen.
On this very special episode, we have writer/director Rich Wilkes, who has written some killer films, including Airheads, Glory Daze (which he also directed), XXX (starring Vin Diesel), The Jerky Boys: The Movie, the Mötley Crüe biopic The Dirt, and the documentary Punk Like Me. Not only is he our new best friend, but he also flipped the questions back on us and made this interview one for the ages.
This is a very special episode because Ninja Sex Party is the perfect guest for Bothering the Band: they rock, they are hilarious! They sing songs about dicks and unicorns, and we got to ask them questions about unicorn dicks! Also, our host may have crossed paths with them in the NYC comedy scene. Give it up for Dan and Brian of Ninja Sex Party, who definitely give us a heart boner.
On this episode, we have Night Palace, the ethereal indie pop creation of classically-trained vocalist and songwriter Avery Leigh Draut, who responded to our awkward questions with answers that included Sonic the Hedgehog, car office, street microwaves and hospital valets. Find out what the hell she is talking about and then tell someone you went to high school with.
John Salaway is a musician's musician. He is also our friend, so this interview is a long time coming. The Grammy-considered songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist, who has shared stages with Peter Frampton, Ben Folds, Foo Fighters, and more, talked with us about Florida, chain wallets, Groundhog Day, Sean Barna, and using the "John". All from his rocking chair.
This episode with Quinn Christopherson is special for two reasons: it is a Bonus Episode, and it is with our first Alaskan musician! Alaskans are people, too, and this Alaskan makes amazing music filled with dazzling storytelling! He got his start after winning the NPR Tiny Desk competition back in 2019 and his debut album will be released this spring.
Aeon Station is the long-awaited solo project from Kevin Whelan—formerly of indie darlings The Wrens—whom, because he has a new album (Observatory) and a new path, we bothered about a bunch of new shit, including new mornings, New Jersey highways, New Year's resolutions, and more.
Our younger selves would be flipping out over this week's guest, Chris Ballew, the former frontman of 90's multi-platinum rock band The Presidents of the United States of America. Our old selves are flipping out about how nice and funny he is in real life. You have to listen to us discuss parenting, pants, peaches, and President Bear.
Mirour Mirour on the pod, who was one of the most fun Bothering the Band interviews of them all? The husband and wife duo of the Christian indie band Mirours, that's who! And who are so darn nice. We talk about what it's like making and playing music with your spouse, who cleans the bathroom, who does the dishes, and broken coffee mugs, and much more in this magical episode.
Our awesome producer, Abby, saw Seán Barna open up for Counting Crows in Boston last year, and made it a mission to bother the intense and empathetic songwriter. On the cusp of releasing his second full-length record, An Evening at Macri Park, Seán Barna laughs about mustaches, erotic deficiencies, trans-continental junk dancing, and eating meals made by Adam Duritz.
Brooke Singer, of New Zealand's French for Rabbits, is the only musician we've heard of who sends handwritten thank-you notes when you buy a record. Fresh off the release of 'The Overflow', her emotionally intelligent music is evocative of land and sea, awash with glistening layers. Just as she makes a concert hall feel like a living room, Singer makes this bonus episode more magical than we anticipated.
We first fought for The Muslims when we heard their track 'Fuck These Fuckin Fascists' and we can't believe we got Ba7Ba7, QADR, and Abu Shea on the pod. This all-queer, Black & Brown punk band emerged onto the U.S. music scene shortly after the inauguration of 45 in 2017, and have been chugging white tears and destroying lives ever since. Listen loud!
We had the undeniable pleasure of interviewing Andy Valenti and C.J. Johnson (and their manager Claire) of Oh He Dead, the DC-based indie soul band with haunting harmonies to talk bridges, fridges, curfews, cushioned toilet seats, the pronunciation of the word 'Crayon' and much more crazy shit in this wild episode of Bothering the Band, which is the first of season 2!

Our interview with him makes the last episode of Season 1 of Bothering the Band a very special one.
We have a special Christmas Eve Bonus Episode coming down the chimney for ya! MadLeo is a singer-songwriter and actress taking on the music scene with pithy lyrics and bold dark pop production. Despite a few technical glitches in this episode, MadLeo channels her inner extrovert with us to reminisce about basketball, Florida crazies, traveling, and much more.
Buick Audra is a Grammy-award-winning musician, writer, and activist living in Nashville. She has a forthcoming full-length album called Conversations with My Other Voice, as well as an accompanying memoir. She helped us name the grocery bag in which you keep other grocery bags. FYI, it is now called a Monty. She is also in a melodic metal band called Friendship Commanders.
When we first started this project, Shad was at the top of our list of artists to bother. The Canadian alternative hip hop sensation, and host of Netflix's Hip Hop Evolution, is anything but average. Smart, sweet and funny, he definitely lived up to our expectations, answering silly questions about beating Drake in one-on-one, Black Chads, getting recognized on the streets, and so much more.
We sat down with Tommy Prine, son of the late legendary multi Grammy award-winning artist, John Prine, to talk about how he has crafted his own unique sound over the years. We also talk about dogs, video games, fridge cigs and more. Tommy shares news that his debut album is finished (out soon) and he is proud to follow his dad’s example of bringing songs and smiles to music fans everywhere.
We bumped into Tyler-Simone Molton and John Renaud of the Atlanta-based funky punk band Lesibu Grand (pronounced Less-EE-boo Grand) via Zoom and became fast friends, realizing we share a lot in common. They share stories about dreams, hope, hot glue guns and more. They even invite us to bowl wheels of cheese into bottles of wine with them. Listen up!
Live from New York City with Greg Burmeister and Eric Schmidt of the podcast, Talking Schmidt. On this very special episode, we have Tom Arnold. Yes, that Tom Arnold. Actor, Comedian, famous troublemaker, Tom is is a doting dad and surprisingly sweet. And yes, he is a musician, having grown up playing music in country western bands in Iowa. He answers our silly questions, but this episode is so much more than that, and you will have to listen to find out why.
Indie Electro Singer-Songwriter and Ukulelist, Boxout creates music that combines elements of electronic, hip hop, pop punk and indie music. From Chicago, he is blowing up, and answered our silly questions, named all seven dwarfs, and helped us kick start our TikTok. Listen to his sunny, upbeat single “Daylight Runaway,” which is a twist on the cliché breakup song, and then listen to this episode.
Getting to bother Jackopierce, was a lifetime in the making. Our host was introduced to their tunes in high school from his friend Mark Hill, so this episode is nostalgically important. Aside from that, this episode is just hilarious, touching on eating apples, tuxedo shirts, what it means when someone says next Tuesday, undershirts, white Christmas trees and so much more!
Samantha Crain is a Choctaw songwriter, musician, producer, and singer from Shawnee, Oklahoma. Her outstanding music is featured in an episode of the new FX/Hulu comedy/drama series Reservation Dogs. We constructed a well-built episode of Bothering the Band with Ben Rogers who has been going places and turning heads with compelling songs and captivating performances for a while. We love his style of music and love his role on the Amazon show, Loudermilk. Listen as we bother him about coffee snobbery, building stuff, the pronunciation of Syrup, lies, and There Will Be Blood.
This is a very coincidental episode of Bothering the Band with Anna Lies and Ryan Kenter of The Vaughns, an indie pop rock band from New Jersey. We happened to catch them on the day a vomit streak ended, and talked about "classic" films, Taylor ham pork rolls, Von Dutch hats, and the time they played an actual gig in the Newark Airport. Get in on the fun like a dancing giant sexy sloth!
What's Dunn is done! We had a ton of fun with Allie Dunn on this BONUS EPISODE. The singer/songwriter chatted about ribosomes, having "the talk" with her mom (shoutout to Anna), using loofahs, Chef Boyardee, and making puns with her last name. Her new EP "Good as Gone" is available on all streaming platforms. Listen to her music and listen to this podcast.
Some fine action on the pod with Tyson McShane and Chris Morin of the awesome band Slow Down Molasses, whose new album Minor Deaths just came out and is damn good. We traverse shifting sonic territories with the fellas and talk about skateboarding, peeing in the shower, the taste of post-punk sunshine, and grammar (their band name does not have a comma in it any longer!).
Kerry Alexander, front-woman for Minneapolis-based indie rock Bad Bad Hats, should be a standup comedian. She hilariously answers our silly questions about blankets, bad habits, kissing God, keeping butter in the fridge, and people who pronounce Target as Targé. Bad Bad Hats recently released their new album Walkman, and it is damn good, so listen to this and then go listen to that.
We had so much fun bothering Junyor and Moon, the aliens of the band 4 Minutes Later. They dislike third person bios, but they liked us, and their new song "Holding on to Nothing" is a banger! We asked them the best way to hide a boner, the color of mirrors, and why the hell they put dead birds in the fridge. 4 Minutes Later and their alien-pop music is about to take Earth by storm.
Danielle Durack, a Phoenix-based songwriter, whose most recent album, No Place, drew the attention of Pitchfork, and NPR, is indie rock's next generation. We ask her some super silly questions, like can she name all seven dwarfs, and why isn’t the Phoenix WNBA team called the Phoenix Daughters? Find out her favorite flavor of ice cream, her advice for an old boss, and whether she is sitting next to anything purple.
In this buttery BONUS EPISODE, we talk to May Rio about her time touring with Poppies, as well as the year the world went into lockdown. From couch surfing to preferred laundry detergent, we dive deep, even shitting on white bro dudes that wear sombreros on Cinco De Mayo. Although she didn't know who Bridget Fonda was, this was a very fun episode of Bothering the Band.
FELICITY, a Hard Rock/Pop Punk Band From Orlando, Florida, whose debut album 'Dear Universe' continues to gobble up a gajillion streams on Spotify, let us bother them about falling down, bouncing back and forth between metal songs and pop punk songs, and doing drugs at Disney. This was a fun one that hits close to home, because we are also from Orlando, Florida. Publix subs 4-eva!
MNYS is a LA based writer/producer who started making music when he was very very young, and has gone on to work with Timeflies, Lil Dicky and Allen Ritter (Drake, Travis Scott, Kanye West, Rihanna). He let us bother him about broken mirrors, tattoos, Taking Back Sunday songs, and the worst character on the show Friends. Listen now because this kid is gonna blow up.
Tré Burt’s folky Americana music is right up our alley, and we have big fans of his music for a while. This episode is brought to you by Baird Farm, and their organic Vermont maple syrup. Enjoy this sweet episode!
Nick Ghanbarian, the bassist for the emo/punk band Bayside, has become one of our favorite people. Not only have we been fans of his band forever, but he was nice enough to answer our silly questions. From peeing sitting down to taking a bath in hot Mountain Dew, The Phantom Menace to scoring a hockey goal using a bass guitar as the stick, it was great to get to know him.
We have been big fans of G. Love and his special brand of music for most of our lives, so it is a bucket list honor to have the opportunity to bother him. We asked the Grammy nominee dumb questions about Philly sports, Jack Johnson farts, and his family's Christmas tradition, while he cracked a cold beverage and introduced us to his chickens. We can't begin to explain what this episode means to us.
In this BONUS EPISODE, we got to bother Summer Alone, who makes dreamcore trap music aka “music to cry and rob to”. From chatting about Mexican food in England to how he lost his virginity, we became mates...and made plans to ride dolphins together. The London experimental hip hop artist that mixes many genres is driven, dedicated and hungry, while his music is hypnotic, and his laugh is infectious.
For our very first in-person interview, we got to bother Abstract, a hip-hop savant whose lyrics are sharp and thought-provoking, creating universes one rhyme at a time. We sat down with Abstract (who’s friends with our producer) in a fancy hotel conference room in Jackson Hole, and asked him wild shit about his unicycling super powers, shitty jobs, scars, metaphysics and Kanye.
Since their (accidental) inception in the early 2010s, Lizzie and the Makers have worked diligently in the studio, on tour, and in the New York City music scene. Getting to bother Lizzie was like barbecued kismet, because we actually found out we have mutual crazy friends in NYC. Listen to find out if she would rather poop her pants in public or get her period while wearing white pants on a white couch.
From dressing the Sex Pistols to rocking out with Bowie, Keanan Duffty has lived an incredible life. His answers to our silly questions are insightful, funny, and inspiring. He is also an award-winning fashion designer, author, and currently serves as Director of Fashion Programs, Provost's Office, at Parsons School of Design in New York City.
We had a nice time bothering Alaia and Ulises of Tres Leches, a band that resists easy formula. Their music is raucously good fun, with the band switching out instruments as often as the style of their songs, so you can imagine how fun it was to interview them. From pet hawks to remedies for Spanish hiccups, find out if they would let their moms cut their hair on this "art punk" episode.
In this eye-opening BONUS EPISODE with Myron Houngbedji, the drummer of the Baltimore-based indie rock band Pinkshift, we discuss the difference between an Optometrist and an Ophthalmologist, and other hard-hitting questions like how many two-year-olds do you think you can beat up at once but what the number is reduced to if some of them have throwing stars.
The Brooklyn-based band Drug Couple is made up of music-making, real-life couple, Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson and Becca Chodorkoff. Zoomed from their Bed-Stuy apartment, it was like being invited into their world and relationship, because we got deep with the duo, touching on the end of the world, favorite Disney villains and which first lady gave the best handjob.
We bothered Bret Constantino, vocalist of the bold indie psych rock band, Sleepy Sun, while his daughter climbed on him. With 5 albums and more than a decade in the music business, Bret embraced our silly questions about naps, Keanu Reeves, and vending machine snacks. Between being a dad, a musician and a chef, this dude deserves a reward for taking the valuable time to talk to us.
Getting weird with Annie Hardy and Collin Deatherage of Giant Drag, an indie rock band from Los Angeles, California – that we have been blasting loud while walking through life for a long while – was an adventure to say the least. Their mix of poetic punk rock and subtle scream-o music lends itself perfectly to questions about funky neighbors, conspiracy theories, lemons and coffee, and mischief.
From one of their clean apartments in Portland, we got to bother all the members of the awesome band, Forty Feet Tall, which straddles the line between indie rock and melodic punk. We tackled the tough stuff and they left it all out on the table, unanimously voting yes on period sex, talking a ton of shit about the character Ross on Friends, and promoting their brand new album, “A Good Distraction”.
Ergo, Bria is a singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer from Atlanta, who now currently resides in Nashville where she creates songs that mix her background as a classically trained musician with pop punk, alternative and indie. She has a voice like a choir of angels, and she is gonna be a superstar. We bothered her about comfort zones, quicksand, fast food, and her favorite uncle.
Having written over 300 songs, Eamon McGrath has developed a body of work that could rival that of any artist on the planet. On top of that, he has written two critically acclaimed books, and we are so glad he was brave enough to let us bother him about bears, pancakes, creepy vans, and the smell of cold Canadian nights. Give this episode and Eamon’s music a listen because both are darn good.
Prolific musician and songwriter Jim Ward has never been a typical. The El Paso native rarely does interviews these days, especially in reference to the band he started at age 17, At the Drive-In. Currently working on multiple projects and playing in multiple bands, Ward made an exception for us and his new solo album “Daggers” is damn good. Listen to this episode and then listen to the album.
We’ve loved The Head and The Heart since working in a tea house in NYC a long time ago, and bothering Tyler Williams, the drummer of the band, was about not giving up on kismet. We tweeted at The Head and The Heart, expecting nothing, but to our surprise they got back to us and Tyler agreed to do our silly interview. From making out with Danny Glover to his favorite Lumineers song, this was a ton of fun.
We have a badass BONUS episode of BTB this week with Max Motherfucker, the singer of the German hardcore band Christmas. Known for his remarkable live shows, he is an all-around lovely bloke. Max talks skateboarding, educates us on Freikoerperkultur, and what he would do if he found six (not five and not seven) dead tigers in his backyard. Listen loud!
Formerly the frontman of the pop punk band Yellowcard, (William) Ryan Key has released two stellar solo EPs, but his new primary focus is scoring television and films. We discussed Ryan Gosling, Florida, hope and Star Wars (he co-hosts a podcast dedicated to a galaxy far, far away called Thank the Maker). And we must remind him again to put his house key back on his key chain, and to start journaling.
Talking with Lyrics Born was absolutely amazing. Not only is he a dope ass MC and producer, he is also a chef and now an actor. On top of all that, LB’s passion shines bright when he talks about his new song ANTI which is all about anti Asian hate. It was an honor to dive into the heart and mind of this magnificent artist and human, who had us thinking deep thoughts as well as laughing our asses off.
Like your 80's hits with a future twist, dreamy hair with moody synths, cryptic lyrics and an indie fix, bothering M.M. Crone was so much fun. Hailing from Montreal, my second favorite city in the world, the band is Margaux Tabary and Philippe. Their music is perfect for mornings, at least that’s when I’ve been listening to it. We thank them both for sitting down with us and doing our silly podcast.
As the bassist for raucous yet soulful indie rock band, Delta Spirit, Jonathan Jameson is a man of many surprising talents. Not only is he a musician, but he is a doting dad, and he is also studying to become a priest. Before you listen, we must say that their song "Bushwick Blues" is one of our host’s favorite songs of all time, so it was a complete and utter honor to bother Jonathan Jameson.
Holy shit! What can we say about this interview? You just gotta listen to it. You will laugh your ass off, because Pat Via and Mitch Mitchell, 2/3 of January Jane who are absolutely hilarious. From not-so-subtle drug references to quoting It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, this NSFW Bothering the Band wasn't a bother at all, but pure chaotic fun. Grab a drink, take your pants off and give it a good listen.
As insightful and thought-provoking as it is whimsical and intimate, our interview with Racquel Jones dove deep into existential pathos. An artist, performer and poet, Racquel is a renaissance woman, and an absolute seamless dream to talk to in this interview that went from bothering to blossoming.
One half of Crocodiles, the lo-fi new wave band that seamlessly mixes noise pop with a splash of indie indulgences, Brandon Welchez is a gentleman of the world and he brought that wisdom to this interview, graciously letting us bother him about everything from spitting off the Eiffel Tower to Zodiac signs and killing bugs. Enjoy this episode with Mr. Welchez (pronounced like the grape juice).
When Lily Mao was 10-years-old, her father gifted her a guitar for Christmas, and from that moment she taught herself to play and sing. She performs original music on stages, subway platforms, street corners, anywhere she can connect with people through musical expression. Based in NYC and backed by her band The Resonaters, Lily made us feel lucky that we got to bother her.
Armed with only an old telecaster and her sultry voice, Katie Malco has toured extensively with the likes of Julien Baker, Jenny Lewis, Bob Mould, Dawes, Kevin Devine, This is the Kit, BC Camplight, The Joy Formidable and We Were Promised Jetpacks. She released her debut album, ‘Failures’ in 2020 on 6131 Records, and it is with great pleasure we get to bother her.
Holy hell, let’s welcome Christopher Mansfield aka the one and only Fences to the podcast. He is a musician, songwriter, artist, and the reason our host and producer both wear overalls. He is a poet at heart, and we are thrilled to have him on the podcast, while he is hiding in the desert or pretending to be a horse running to and fro in Los Angeles.
